Varanasi Movie Event Cost: How Much Did the Mahesh Babu–Rajamouli Globe Trotter Event Cost, and How Much Did the Producer Earn?
Superstar Mahesh Babu’s highly awaited film Varanasi, directed by India’s top filmmaker SS Rajamouli, has been the talk of the nation ever since its massive Globe Trotter event took place at Ramoji Film City on November 15. For months, fans speculated about the film’s title, Mahesh’s look, and the world-class scale of the project—until Rajamouli finally unveiled everything at this grand event.
Here’s a detailed breakdown of how much the event cost and how much the producer earned through broadcast rights and promotions.
Varanasi (SSMB 29) – Budget & Star Cast
Produced by KL Narayana under Sri Durga Arts, Varanasi is being made with a massive ₹1000 crore budget, making it one of the most expensive films ever made in India.
Cast & Crew Highlights:
Mahesh Babu – Lead role
Priyanka Chopra Jonas – Female lead (Role: Mandakini)
Prithviraj Sukumaran – Villain (Role: Kumbha)
MM Keeravani – Music director
Vijayendra Prasad – Story writer
The recently released character posters of Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj have further raised expectations for this pan-world cinematic project.
Why the Globe Trotter Event Became a National Sensation
Rajamouli normally avoids frequent updates during production. But for Varanasi, he broke tradition:
Released character posters
Dropped the “Sanchari” song
Announced a massive title launch event
This created nationwide and even international anticipation. The Globe Trotter event was streamed live and watched by millions due to Rajamouli’s global reputation post-RRR.
How Much Did the Globe Trotter Event Cost?
The event was executed on a huge scale inside Ramoji Film City.
Major Expense Breakdown
Massive LED screen setup: ₹30 lakh
Grand event stage & décor
Seating, tables, and venue arrangements
Security personnel & staff
Travel and accommodation for national/international media
Publicity and promotional activities
Ramoji Film City rental charges
Total Estimated Cost: ₹15 crore
This makes it one of the most expensive movie promotional events ever held in India.
How Much Did the Producer Earn?
Rajamouli introduced a brand-new trend in Indian cinema by selling event broadcast rights even before the movie’s release.
Jio Hotstar Broadcast Rights
According to Filmnagar reports:
Jio Hotstar bought the Globe Trotter event rights for ₹40–50 crore
Producer KL Narayana reportedly received ₹35 crore
Jio Hotstar is rumored to have earned ₹5 crore through ad revenue during the live telecast
Producer’s Net Gain (Estimated):
₹20 crore profit after subtracting event cost
However, exact financials will be clearer only after official confirmation.
Final Verdict: Did the Producer Make a Profit?
Based on early industry estimates:
Event cost: ₹15 crore
Broadcast revenue received: ~₹35 crore
Likely Profit for Producer KL Narayana: ₹20 crore
Rajamouli’s strategy not only boosted hype but also ensured financial safety even before the film’s release. With a ₹1000-crore budget project like Varanasi, this innovative revenue model sets a new trend in Indian cinema.
