Rahul Gandhi anti-government in parliament over comments on Prime Minister Gautam Adani

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of aiding Gautam Adani’s business empire in all sectors, prompting emphatic rebuttals from the ruling BJP.

Rahul Gandhi today launched a strong attack in parliament against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and billionaire Gautam Adani, whose companies are under fire after US short-seller Hindenburg Research alleges stock manipulation and accounting fraud by the cluster.

The Congress leader, who recently completed a 3,500 km Bharat Jodo Yatra, accused PM Modi of aiding Adani’s business empire in all sectors, prompting emphatic rebuttals from the ruling BJP, who called his accusations wild and reckless.

“Adani ji never fails in any business he ventures into solar energy and wind energy. During my yatra, people asked me how Adani achieved so much success in so many sectors, what is his relationship with the prime minister,” Gandhi said in Lok Sabha. , alleging that the businessman had obtained contracts in the countries that Prime Minister Modi had visited.

“People asked me how Adani’s net worth increased from $8 billion to $140 billion between 2014 and 2022,” he said.

The Congress leader said the businessman rose from “600 to second rank” when the BJP came to power in 2014. He also alleged that the rules were changed so that the Adani group could win six airport contracts.

“Don’t make wild accusations, present evidence,” Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju responded to the congress leader. “He Now he is a high-ranking parliamentarian. He should speak responsibly. We expect him to be serious in parliament. He can say whatever he wants outside,” Rijiju said.

BJP MPs shouted that privatization started when Congress was in power and handed out airport contracts to companies like GVK, which had no experience in the business.

BJP leaders also commented that Mr. Gandhi should speak about “Ashok Gehlot-Adani ties”, referring to Mr. Adani pledging ₹65,000 crores at an “Invest Rajasthan Summit” in the Congress-ruled state last year.

The Adani group has called the Hindenburg report a “malicious combination of targeted misinformation and outdated, baseless, and discredited allegations that have been tried and rejected by India’s highest courts.”

Opposition parties claim that the recent collapse of Adani group shares involves public money, as public sector companies LIC (Life Insurance Corporation of India) and SBI (State Bank of India) have invested in them. The Gautham Adani group says it has totally with all laws and disclosure requirements.

Both houses of parliament have been repeatedly disrupted due to protests linked to the Hindenburg-Adani dispute.
