Rajnath Hyderabad: Planning to tie in Prabhas?
Union Defense Minister and BJP heavyweight Rajnath Singh came to Hyderabad to visit the bereaved family of actor and UV politician Krishnam Raju. Rajnath not only visited Krishnam Raju’s wife and children but also made sure that the star of Bahubali, Prabhas, was there. He also went to Krishnam Raju’s condolence meeting. But, Rajnath also arranged for Prabhas to accompany him to the meeting. In fact, they were both in the same car.
Sources say there is a deep political calculation in Rajnath’s visit to Hyderabad. Political observers say the visit was prompted not so much by love for Krishnam Raju, who was a union minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government, but by Prabhas’ political importance. The BJP plans to use Prabhas’ filmi charisma in the 2024 election.
BJP also realize that Prabhas is now a pan-Indian star, especially after Bahubali. So, he wants to capitalize on his charisma in Karnataka and also in North India. The sources also say that Prabhas can help the BJP win over Kshatriya votes in the coastal Andhra district and also in Hyderabad, especially in Kompally and Kukatpally.
There are also rumors that Prabhas’ brother Prabodh, who performed the last rites of Krishnam Raju, would be the BJP candidate from Narasapur lok sabha constituency in West Godavari district. If the brother is in the fray, Prabhas will surely campaign for him and his party, the sources say. Therefore, Rajnath’s visit has great political significance, political observers say.
