Malayalam superstar Dulquer Salmaan is continuing his golden streak as both actor and producer. After the massive success of Lucky Bhaskar and the record-breaking Loka Chapter 1: Chandra, which became the first Malayalam movie to cross ₹300 crore, Dulquer returns with his much-awaited project — Kaantha.

About Kaantha Movie

Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, Kaantha is set to hit theaters on November 14, coinciding with Children’s Day. The movie promises a rich visual experience with an emotional narrative set in 1950s India.

Kaantha Cast and Crew

The film stars Bhagyashree Borse as the female lead opposite Dulquer Salmaan. The supporting cast includes Samuthirakani, Rana Daggubati, Ravindra Vijay, Nilgal Ravi, Bhagavathy Perumal, and Bijesh Nagesh in key roles.

The story is written by Thamiz Prabha, while production is handled by Dulquer Salmaan, Rana Daggubati, Prashanth Potluri, and Jam Varghese under the Spirit Media and Wayfarer Films banners.

The technical crew includes Jakes Bejoy for background score, Janu Chanthar for music, Danny Sanchez Lopez for cinematography, and Llewellyn Antony & Gonselvaj as editors.

Kaantha Movie Budget

Trade analysts estimate the total budget of Kaantha at around ₹35 crore, including production, cast remuneration, and promotions. The film has been shot in picturesque locations across Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, with elaborate 1950s-era sets and costumes.

Pre-Release Controversy

Before its theatrical release, Kaantha got embroiled in a controversy. Reports suggest the film draws inspiration from the life of MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, considered the first superstar of South Indian cinema. His grandson filed a petition in the Madras High Court, alleging the film was made without family consent. The court hearing is scheduled for November 18, which has put the film’s release under temporary uncertainty.

Kaantha OTT Release on Netflix

As per trade sources, Netflix has acquired the digital streaming rights for Kaantha at a high price. The deal specifies that the movie will premiere on OTT four weeks after its theatrical release.

If the film releases on schedule, Kaantha will start streaming on Netflix in the second week of December 2025. However, if the release faces delays due to ongoing legal proceedings, it may drop on Netflix in the last week of December.

Netflix is expected to make an official announcement soon regarding Kaantha’s OTT streaming date.
