A Historic Election The 2025 Vice-Presidential election marked the 17th such contest in India’s parliamentary history. Unusually, the election was held ahead of schedule following the unexpected resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 21 due to health concerns. This early poll was the first of its kind since 1987.

About the New Vice President CP Radhakrishnan’s political journey spans decades, including roles as a two-time Lok Sabha MP and Governor of multiple states. His elevation to the Vice Presidency is seen as a strategic and symbolic move, especially given his deep roots in Tamil Nadu and longstanding affiliation with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

As Vice President, Radhakrishnan will also serve as the Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha, playing a crucial role in shaping legislative discourse and upholding constitutional values.
