Suryakumar Yadav Should Have Avoided This Mistake – Mohammad Kaif’s Advice to India’s T20 Captain
Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian T20 captain, continues to struggle with the bat, raising concerns ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup. The third match of the five-match T20 series between India and South Africa was played on December 14, 2025, at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, where Suryakumar once again failed to deliver a significant innings.
Chasing a modest target of 118 runs, India were firmly in control of the match. However, Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed for 12 runs off 11 balls, extending his run of low scores in the series. His lack of runs across all three matches has become a talking point among cricket experts and fans alike.
Mohammad Kaif Criticises Suryakumar’s Approach
Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif, speaking on his YouTube channel, openly criticised Suryakumar Yadav’s batting approach. Kaif felt that the Indian skipper missed a golden opportunity to regain form in a low-pressure chase.
According to Kaif, Suryakumar should have batted at his usual No. 3 position, spent more time at the crease, and aimed to finish the match unbeaten.
“India was clearly in a winning position. Suryakumar Yadav had the perfect opportunity to bat at number three, score 30 or 40 runs, and remain not out. This would have helped him regain confidence ahead of the remaining T20 matches before the World Cup,” Kaif said.
Time at the Crease Is Key
Kaif also emphasised that no one doubts Suryakumar Yadav’s talent or ability. However, given his stature as a world-class T20 batter, questions naturally arise when he goes through a lean patch.
“Suryakumar is a powerful and exceptional player. Because he is a great batter, expectations are high. One solid innings is enough to change a player’s form completely. Spending time at the crease was crucial in this situation,” Kaif explained.
Concern Ahead of the T20 World Cup
With the T20 World Cup approaching, Suryakumar Yadav’s form will be under scrutiny. Experts believe that confidence-building innings, rather than quick cameos, are essential at this stage of preparation.
As the series progresses, all eyes will be on whether the Indian T20 captain can bounce back and silence critics with a match-winning performance.
