Sorry if I Hurt You… Ram Gopal Varma Apologizes to Chiranjeevi! Here’s What Happened
Tollywood’s maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma (RGV), who revolutionized Telugu cinema with Nagarjuna’s Shiva, has once again become the talk of the town — but this time, for an unexpected reason. Known for his bold opinions and controversial statements, RGV has now extended a heartfelt apology to Megastar Chiranjeevi.
Recently, during the promotions for the re-release of Shiva, Chiranjeevi showered praises on the film and its creator, Ram Gopal Varma. The Megastar said,
“When we talk about Shiva, we must especially mention Ram Gopal Varma. His camera angles, lighting, sound design, and presentation were all path-breaking. I felt that this young director would become the future of Telugu cinema. Hats off to RGV!”
Chiranjeevi also conveyed his best wishes to the entire Shiva team.
In response, Ram Gopal Varma took to X (Twitter) and wrote —
“If I have hurt you, I sincerely apologize. Thank you once again for your generosity.”
This unexpected apology surprised fans and industry circles alike, as RGV had previously made several controversial remarks about the Mega Family. Whether it was regret or respect, his latest post clearly reflected a change in tone.
The Lost Film: Chiranjeevi and RGV’s Unfinished Dream Project
Interestingly, Chiranjeevi and Ram Gopal Varma once shared a close bond and even planned to collaborate on a film. The project, titled ‘Vinalani Edhi’, was produced under the Vyjayanthi Movies banner with Tabu as the female lead. Mani Sharma composed the film’s music.
However, creative differences between Chiranjeevi and RGV led to the film’s shelving in 1998. Chiranjeevi had reportedly suggested changes to the script, which Varma did not agree to. Later, two songs from Vinalani Edhi were used in the Chiranjeevi–Gunasekhar film ‘Choodalani Undi’.
Chiranjeevi’s Praise & RGV’s Apology Win Hearts
Fans of both the Megastar and RGV are delighted to see mutual respect being expressed publicly after years of friction. The warm exchange between the two icons has sparked nostalgia among movie lovers, especially those who still remember the revolutionary impact of Shiva on Telugu cinema.
