Will Pseudo Secularism Threaten the Judiciary? Pawan Kalyan’s Strong Warning

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan launched a sharp attack on the Indi Alliance, raising serious concerns over what he called an attempt to intimidate the judiciary in the name of pseudo-secularism.

Reacting to the impeachment notice filed against Madras High Court Judge Justice G.R. Swaminathan, Pawan Kalyan questioned why opposition parties were targeting a sitting judge for delivering a verdict that reportedly protected the religious rights of Hindu devotees.

The impeachment notice was submitted by DMK MP Kanimozhi to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and was reportedly supported by around 120 MPs. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav were also present during the submission of the notice.

Pawan Kalyan drew a comparison with the Sabarimala case, where the Supreme Court verdict altered a centuries-old practice. He pointed out that despite nationwide protests, no political force attempted to initiate impeachment proceedings against the judges who delivered that verdict.

He further said that the Constitution allows the removal of judges only on the grounds of proven misbehaviour or incompetence, not for judicial decisions that protect religious customs.

According to Pawan Kalyan, the move by opposition MPs was not about judicial accountability but political pressure, sending a dangerous message to the judiciary, especially regarding verdicts related to Hindu traditions.

He warned that such actions could intimidate judges and influence their independence in religious and cultural matters.

Calling for institutional reform, Pawan Kalyan suggested the creation of a Sanatana Dharma Protection Board to ensure that temples and religious affairs are managed independently, without political or legal interference.

He also stressed that practicing Hindu traditions is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution and clarified that protecting Sanatana Dharma does not equate to opposing any other religion.

“True secularism must work both ways. If it applies selectively, it becomes pseudo-secularism. Every religion deserves equal respect, and Hindus must also be treated with fairness and dignity,” Pawan Kalyan stated.
