Meta New AI Models 2026: Mango for Images, Avocado for Coding

Meta is once again ready to shake the artificial intelligence world. The tech giant is reportedly developing two powerful next-generation AI models named Mango and Avocado, expected to launch in the first half of 2026. These models are aimed directly at challenging the dominance of OpenAI and Google in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Meta’s secret AI projects signal a bold new chapter in the company’s long-term AI strategy. Mango is being designed specifically for high-quality image and video generation, while Avocado will focus on advanced text generation, coding, and complex reasoning tasks.

Meta’s Big AI Comeback Plan

Unlike incremental updates, Mango and Avocado represent Meta’s most ambitious AI push yet. These will be the first major releases from Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL), a newly formed division dedicated to accelerating Meta’s AI innovation.

The initiative is being led by Alexander Wang (28), Meta’s Chief AI Officer and founder of Scale AI. Meta recently acquired a majority stake in Wang’s startup for $14 billion, underscoring CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s determination to reclaim leadership in the AI race.

Mango AI: Image & Video Powerhouse

Mango is positioned as a creative AI model focused on producing high-quality images and videos. It is expected to compete with tools like OpenAI’s Sora and Google Gemini 3 Flash, offering advanced generative capabilities for creators, advertisers, and developers.

Avocado AI: Coding & Reasoning Beast

Avocado is Meta’s most advanced large language model (LLM) so far. Unlike existing models, Avocado is designed to go beyond basic text generation and excel in coding, logical reasoning, and technical problem-solving.

Alexander Wang described Avocado as a major leap forward, stating that Meta is building “world models”—AI systems that understand not just language, but how the real world works. This marks a major shift from traditional AI design approaches.

Meta vs OpenAI & Google

Meta’s current Llama models have struggled to keep pace with competitors. With Mango and Avocado, Zuckerberg is not just catching up—he’s preparing for a full-scale AI comeback, aiming to dominate the next era of artificial intelligence.

If successful, these models could redefine Meta’s role in AI innovation and reshape the competitive landscape in 2026 and beyond.
