Story Overview

Lockdown follows the emotional journey of Anitha (Anupama Parameswaran), a sincere lower-middle-class girl who finally lands a good job. While attending a celebratory party with her HR friend Pradeep, she unknowingly consumes alcohol and collapses. A shocking twist follows—medical tests reveal that she is pregnant without any involvement or awareness.

As Anitha attempts to terminate the pregnancy, India suddenly announces a strict nationwide COVID-19 lockdown, pushing her life into chaos.

The film explores:

How Anitha grapples with an unwanted pregnancy

Her efforts to seek medical help during lockdown

A doctor who agrees to perform the procedure for ₹30,000 but later catches COVID-19

The harassment she faces from another doctor

The mental trauma inflicted by societal pressure, family honor, and isolation

Her family’s reaction to her emotional breakdown

The story answers whether Anitha ultimately manages to end the pregnancy and how the lockdown changes her life forever.

Performances

Anupama Parameswaran as Anitha

This is undoubtedly the best performance of Anupama’s career. She doesn’t just act—she lives the role of a distressed young woman battling fear, shame, and emotional collapse.
