The incident has triggered a political controversy in West Bengal. Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar strongly criticized the state government, alleging that the event was hijacked by Trinamool Congress leaders and that those involved had close ties to the ruling party.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed shock over the incident and issued a public apology to Messi and his fans.

“I sincerely apologize to Lionel Messi, all sports lovers, and Messi’s fans for this unfortunate incident,” Mamata Banerjee wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
