IPL 2026 Auction: Cameron Green Sold for ₹25.20 Crore, But Why Will He Receive Only ₹18 Crore?
Cameron Green IPL 2026 auction salary: The IPL 2026 Mini Auction began with massive excitement and record-breaking bids. A total of 369 players went under the hammer for 77 available slots, including 244 Indian players and 115 overseas cricketers.
Among the franchises, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) entered the auction with the highest purse of ₹64.3 crore, while Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a purse of ₹43.4 crore. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) came in with ₹25.5 crore, whereas the Mumbai Indians (MI) were left with a modest ₹2.75 crore.
Early Auction Highlights
Australian youngster Jack Fraser-McGurk was the first player to be auctioned, but surprisingly, none of the 10 teams showed interest. Delhi Capitals later picked up veteran batter David Miller at his base price of ₹2 crore.
Meanwhile, Indian batter Prithvi Shaw once again remained unsold, repeating the disappointment from the previous auction.
Cameron Green Sparks a Bidding War
The biggest moment of the auction arrived when Australian all-rounder Cameron Green entered the bidding. Despite having a limited purse, the Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders engaged in an intense bidding battle.
Mumbai Indians managed to bid up to ₹2.5 crore, but eventually, KKR secured Cameron Green for a record ₹25.20 crore, making him the third-highest priced player in IPL auction history.
Only Rishabh Pant (₹27 crore) and Shreyas Iyer (₹26.75 crore) are ahead of him on the all-time list.
Why Cameron Green Will Get Only ₹18 Crore
Although Cameron Green was sold for ₹25.20 crore, he will not receive the full amount.
As per the revised IPL rules, overseas players are allowed to receive a maximum salary cap of ₹18 crore per season. Any amount exceeding this limit is diverted to the IPL Welfare Fund, which supports retired players, domestic cricketers, and development programs.
So, in Cameron Green’s case:
Auction price: ₹25.20 crore
Amount received by player: ₹18 crore
Remaining amount: Contributed to IPL Welfare
Final Word
Cameron Green’s record-breaking bid highlights his growing value in T20 cricket, but the IPL’s new financial regulations ensure better long-term sustainability and player welfare across the league.
Despite not receiving the full bid amount, Green remains one of the most expensive and sought-after overseas players in IPL history.
