Gautam Gambhir reaction on India defeat: IND vs SA: India suffered a disappointing 30-run defeat in the first Test against South Africa at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Chasing a relatively small target of 124 runs, Team India’s batting lineup crumbled once again against spin. Except for Washington Sundar, who fought hard with a 31-run knock off 92 balls, none of the other batters managed to stay long at the crease.
Gambhir Reacts After Defeat: “We Wanted a Pitch Like This”
After the loss, Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir made strong comments about the pitch. Speaking after the match, Gambhir said that the team had requested the curator to prepare exactly this type of surface, and he expressed satisfaction with the pitch conditions.
Gambhir admitted that the defeat had nothing to do with the pitch, and the real reason was the team’s poor batting performance. He said a target of 124 runs was very much achievable if the batters had shown proper defense and technique.
He pointed out that South Africa captain Temba Bavuma’s half-century proved that runs could be scored on this wicket. He also highlighted that most wickets were taken by pacers, which indicates that it was not a turning track.

Gambhir stated that if India had managed to chase the target, the pitch would not have become a talking point at all. He stressed that the surface was fair and playable and that the team must take responsibility for the batting failure.
