Story Overview
Komal (Vishwak Sen) dreams of becoming a director and begins working on his film Funky. However, the project spirals out of control when the budget shoots far beyond expectations, leading to producer Sudarshan’s declining health.
Chitra (Kayadu Lohar) steps in to rescue the project, taking charge and removing Komal from the director’s seat. What follows is a journey filled with professional clashes, emotional struggles, and a developing love story between Komal and Chitra.
The movie revolves around whether Komal can honor his promise to complete the film on a limited budget and the challenges the duo faces along the way.
What Works
- Kayadu Lohar shines with both glamour and performance, showing strong potential.
- VK Naresh delivers his signature comedy timing.
- Cinematography by Suresh Sarangam adds visual richness.
- Production values are grand and technically polished.
What Doesn’t Work
- Weak storyline with little emotional depth.
- Forced punch dialogues that rarely land.
- Slow and repetitive narration.
- Editing lacks sharpness, making the film feel stretched.
- Music fails to create impact apart from two songs.
Performances
Vishwak Sen, despite his acting ability, appears stuck in a role that doesn’t fully utilize his talent. However, he briefly reminds audiences of his strength in emotional scenes.
Kayadu Lohar emerges as the film’s biggest positive — confident on screen and impressive in key moments.
Special appearances by Dil Raju, Harish Shankar, and Kalyan Shankar add curiosity but don’t significantly elevate the film.
Technical Analysis
Director Anudeep KV, known for the blockbuster Jathi Ratnalu, once again leans heavily on quirky humor. Unfortunately, this time the comedy feels excessive and unsupported by a solid script.
Bheems Ceciroleo’s music lacks the spark expected from him, while Naveen Nooli’s editing feels inconsistent. On the brighter side, the cinematography stands out as one of the film’s strongest assets.
Rating: 2/5
Funky is an experiment that doesn’t quite succeed. The film tries to rely on one-liner comedy instead of a structured story, resulting in a below-average cinematic experience.
If you enjoy light, silly humor and don’t mind overlooking narrative flaws, you might give it a try. Otherwise, this is a film you can comfortably wait to stream.
Bottom Line: More flaws than fun — watch only if you have patience.
