Chandrababu Naidu’s Key Decision on Housing for All: 17 Lakh Houses in the Next Three Years
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has taken a major decision to fast-track the Housing for All initiative. During a detailed review meeting with TIDCO and Housing Department officials at the State Secretariat, he set an ambitious goal: constructing 17 lakh houses within the next three years.
The Chief Minister clarified that the government aims to complete the entire housing mission by January 2029, fulfilling the promise made to the people during the elections.
Target to Complete 20 Lakh Houses During the Government’s Tenure
Chandrababu Naidu announced that the coalition government has set a target of 20 lakh houses, out of which more than 3 lakh houses have already been completed and handed over through mass housewarming ceremonies.
He instructed officials to ensure:
17 lakh houses must be completed in the next 36 months
Mass housewarmings every 3 months
5 lakh housewarmings by the upcoming Ugadi festival
The CM emphasised that all field-level staff must work with urgency and responsibility to achieve these targets.
Survey to Identify New Beneficiaries
To make the scheme more inclusive, Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to conduct a fresh statewide survey to identify all eligible beneficiaries who might have been left out earlier.
He ordered:
Quick completion of the survey
Village-wise display of beneficiary lists
No delays or discrepancies in implementation
The CM added, “I am satisfied only when people are satisfied.”
Support for Joint Families and Social Groups
The government is encouraging joint family housing models and has announced additional financial support for vulnerable social groups.
Additional Benefits:
Extra ₹50,000 assistance under PMAY 1.0
Special budget of ₹90 crore for 18,000 Muslim minority beneficiaries
Extra benefits for SC, ST, BC, and PVTG communities
All housing construction updates will now be uploaded online for transparency.
Pending NTR Rural Housing Scheme Bills to Be Cleared
Chandrababu Naidu accused the previous government of blocking bills worth ₹920 crore related to the NTR Rural Housing Scheme (2014–2019). He instructed officials to hold talks with the Central Government to get these bills resubmitted.
The CM noted that similar issues occurred with pending NREGA bills, which the present government successfully cleared and brought back into workflow.
Housing Progress So Far
Officials presented key data during the meeting:
8 lakh houses were constructed between 2014–2019
5.80 lakh houses were constructed between 2019–2024
The meeting was attended by Housing Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy, senior TIDCO officials, and department authorities.
Conclusion
Chandrababu Naidu’s new directives under the Housing for All mission represent one of the biggest housing pushes in Andhra Pradesh’s history. With a clear deadline, transparent processes, and additional financial support for marginalised groups, the government aims to complete 17 lakh houses in just three years and fulfil the housing promise made to millions of families.
