What is SIM Binding?

From early 2026, messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal must be permanently linked to your active SIM card.

 

Key Changes:

If the registered SIM is removed, deactivated, or replaced, the app will stop working immediately.

Simply moving the SIM to another phone may require re-authentication.

International Travel Impact: Switching to a foreign SIM may deactivate your Indian WhatsApp account unless you re-verify with a new number.

WhatsApp Web & Telegram Web Auto-Logout:

Automatic logout every 6 hours.

Re-login requires:

Active SIM in the phone

QR code scan

Phone authentication

This rule aims to stop account hijacking and impersonation scams.

 

PAN Card Update: PAN to Become “Inoperative” from Jan 1, 2026

January 1, 2026, is the final cutoff date for certain PAN card holders.
