Tragedy in North Carolina: 7 People Including NASCAR Legend Greg Biffle’s Family Killed in Plane Crash

A devastating private plane crash in North Carolina has claimed the lives of seven people, including retired NASCAR star Greg Biffle and members of his family. Biffle, his wife Cristina Grossu Biffle, their young son Ryder, and his daughter Emma were among the victims when the private jet went down near Statesville Regional Airport on Thursday morning.

According to authorities, a Cessna C550 business jet — registered to a company managed by Biffle — departed Statesville for Florida just after 10:15 a.m. on December 18, 2025. Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft turned back due to challenging weather conditions and, while attempting to land, crashed and erupted into flames.

Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident as wreckage cleanup and identification efforts continue.

Victims Identified

In addition to Biffle and his immediate family, three other passengers were confirmed dead in the crash:

Craig Wadsworth, a friend and member of the NASCAR community

Dennis Dutton and his son Jack Dutton

A joint statement issued by the families expressed profound sorrow, saying the loss has left loved ones “heartbroken beyond words.”

Greg Biffle’s Legacy

Greg Biffle was a highly respected figure in motorsports, celebrated for his successful career across NASCAR’s premier series. He earned multiple championships — including titles in the NASCAR Truck Series (2000) and Xfinity Series (2002) — and was honored as one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers.

Throughout his life, Biffle was admired not only for his achievements on the track but also for his efforts off it, including philanthropic work and community support. His sudden passing, just days before his 56th birthday, has sent shockwaves through the racing world and beyond.

Investigation Underway

Crash investigators are analyzing weather conditions, flight data, and wreckage to determine what led to the fatal accident. Adverse weather, including low clouds and light rain at the time of departure and attempted landing, may have played a role, although no official cause has yet been released.
