Pawan Kalyan Honoured as ‘Abhinava Sri Krishna Devaraya’ at Udupi, Urges Protection of Sanatana Dharma
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan participated in the prestigious Bruhat Geetosava programme held at Udupi Sri Krishna Kshetra in Karnataka. During the event, he received the blessings of Paryaya Puttige Sri Krishna Math Peethadhipathi His Holiness Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji, who honoured him with the title ‘Abhinava Sri Krishna Devaraya’.
Addressing the gathering, Pawan Kalyan stated that Sanatana Dharma is not a symbol of superstition but a scientifically guided spiritual path that has shaped humanity for centuries. He urged Hindus to first protect their own Dharma instead of only reacting to external criticism. He stressed that awareness and unity among Hindus are essential to prevent future challenges to religious practices.
He recalled the legal struggles in Tamil Nadu to preserve Dharma and said that every Hindu must remain vigilant to safeguard cultural and spiritual heritage.
Pawan Kalyan also referred to the Constitution of India, pointing out that the image of Lord Krishna preaching the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna was deliberately placed to reflect the values of justice, responsibility, equality, welfare, and rule of law. He said this depiction represents the deep connection between Dharma and the Indian constitutional spirit.
He highlighted the cultural service of Puttige Math, calling it not just a spiritual institution but a guardian of Indian civilisation. Quoting the principle “Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah”, he said that protecting Dharma ultimately protects society. He praised the historic spiritual initiatives such as one crore people hand-writing the Bhagavad Gita and the Laksha Kanta Gita Parayanam, where one lakh people chanted the Gita together, calling it a spiritual shield for India.
Speaking about the relevance of the Bhagavad Gita, Pawan Kalyan said it is not limited to any religion or region, but is a universal guide for humanity. He urged the youth, especially Gen Z and millennials, not to treat the Gita as a book confined to pooja rooms, but as a practical life guide for stress, confusion and moral dilemmas.
He compared daily life struggles to small Kurukshetras and said the Gita provides direction in moments of ethical conflict. He shared that he follows the principle of Nishkama Karma, performing his duties honestly without attachment to results.
Recalling the period before the Andhra Pradesh elections, he said that like Arjuna, he faced inner conflict, but Lord Krishna’s message from the Gita inspired him to contest only 21 seats, prioritising the welfare of the state over personal ambition.
He concluded by stating that he came to Udupi not as a Deputy Chief Minister, but as a seeker of Dharma, and noted that great global thinkers like Einstein, Thoreau, and Oppenheimer were also inspired by the Bhagavad Gita, proving its universal relevance.
