Itlu Maredumilli Prajaneekam Movie Review: Allari Naresh is back with a serious courtroom drama Naandhi. Now he has opted for a political drama that revolves around the town of Maredumilli. Impress again? Will he score success again? Will he continue his streak of success? Let’s find out.

A Telugu teacher, Srinivas Sripada (Allari Naresh), is appointed for election duty in Maredumilli, the village that abstains from voting for failing to comply with its basic facilities. How he gets the town to cast the vote and finally get the basic facilities of the town along with the help of the locals forms the crux of the story.

Performances:

Allari Naresh is known for doing underdog roles. As a simple Telugu teacher who cares for a village, he meets the requirements. He doesn’t flex his muscles or fight bullies flying through the air. Instead, they often beat him up. Vennela Kishore’s character is a cliché. It’s just filler. It doesn’t have much meaning other than making some silly jokes. He is a character that viewers do not take seriously. So, it is the character of Raghu Babu that gives so much development, but it fails. None of the characters, save for the protagonist, leaves a serious impact. Sampath as a collector is fine. He is also shown to be weak and helpless and suddenly turns negative as the movie progresses toward the end. Anandhi is good as Lachimi, a village belle who is also Naresh’s love interest. It has some good scenes. But eventually, he stays out. Actor Sritej lands a role with good screen time. He’s fine. Comedian Praveen gets a serious role. He does a decent job. The rest of the characters are passable.

technicalities:

Itlu Maredumilli’s story sounds great on paper. But he struggles in his execution. It is a good concept that is not fully developed. Therefore, he suffers in his narration. Abburi Ravi’s dialogues complement the proceedings. Production design stands out. The setting of the Maredumilli forest region is impressive. The images are attractive. The background music of Sri Charan adds to the visuals.

Analysis

Itlu Maredumilli Prajaneekam’s point is also not new. One cannot avoid that the concept reminds us of Rajkummar Rao’s Newton. While Newton is a black comedy, Maredumilli tries to be a serious and emotional film. The film slowly takes off and where Maredumilli and his geography are established. The introduction of the characters and their characteristics takes a long time. The first half is with some comedy and some serious scenes. The problems and situation of the people of Maredumilli are well represented.

For example, there is a scene in which the delivery of a pregnant woman is complicated. When everyone gives up on her, Naresh takes the initiative and remembers the ancient technique of performing births using the force of water and it works. This scene works. So, it’s the turn before the interval. It did arouse curiosity about the procedures. But the second half falls apart. It turns out to be predictable.

There are a few scenes here and there that are of interest. The election result episode brings some hope to the film. The military episode seems forced and is wasted. All the negotiations between the government and Maredumilli seem flat. Better writing could have elevated the movie. This gives the impression that Itlu Maredumilli Prajaneekam is half-baked, where some portions work and some don’t. The film failed in its execution.

There are some good moments where the protagonist emphasizes the importance. Naresh offers dialogues on the importance of Telugu, teaching the countryside how it shapes future generations and people’s participation and participation in democracy. The conversation between Naresh and Sampath in the pre-climax is full of emotions. But the film is going down a familiar path. He rushes toward the climax that seems flat. The animal sequence seems forced. There are cinematic liberties in this political drama. The main problem with this movie is that it is neither intense nor hilarious. Not a Naandhi-style movie for Naresh, but passable.

Bottom line: More drama, less shock!
